IPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, iPhone X and later models (including iPhone SE (2nd and 3rd generation)) use side buttons.

IPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus use the volume down button.

IPhone SE (1st generation) and iPhone 6s and earlier use the Home button.

Press and hold the correct button for your iPhone, and connect iPhone to the computer immediately. Do not release the button.

Keep pressing and holding the button until you see the recovery mode screen on iPhone, and then release the button.

If you see the password screen, you need to shut down iPhone and start again.

Step 4: Restore iPhone

When you see the Recover or Update options, select Recover. The computer downloads software for iPhone and starts the recovery process. If the download takes more than 15 minutes and the device exits the recovery mode screen, please wait for the download to complete, then turn off iPhone and restart.
