According to the French website MacGeneration, Apple may launch iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro models without SIM card holders this year, which means these devices can only use eSIM cellular connections. Removing the SIM card tray in the French market may be adopted in some other European countries/regions, as Apple typically sells the same iPhone model in most parts of Europe. Last year, Apple removed all SIM card trays from the iPhone 14 series models in the US market, forcing customers to use eSIM.

Due to the large number of communication operators in China, it is still difficult to popularize ESIM cards. Due to various reasons, the iPhone 15 series released in China next year will likely still use physical cards, and it will take several more years to truly use ESIM cards.
