Apple has been the leader in the electronics industry for many years. The reason why the products released by Apple are so popular is that, in addition to the superior Apple system, it is also due to the better chips made by Apple. Recently, news broke that AppleIt will become the first customer of TSMC’s 2nm process. Many netizens are very concerned about this. Let’s take a look!

Apple will become the first customer of TSMC’s 2nm process. Can the signal get better?

[The first in the industry, supply chain channels confirm that Apple is the first to use TSMC 2nm process chips]

According to news on January 25, DigiTimes media, which is deeply involved in supply chain channels, recently updated the "Tomorrow's Headlines" column blog post. According to information interviewed by many industry insiders, Apple will become the first customer to adopt TSMC's 2nm process.

Judging from Apple’s near-exclusive share of TSMC’s 3nm process capacity, this news is not too surprising. It is just confirmed again from supply chain channels. In the foreseeable future, TSMC’s 2nm chip production capacity will be given priority to Apple.TSMC expects to start producing 2-nanometer chips in the second half of 2025, with the reduction in node size equivalent to a reduction in transistor size so more transistors can be packed on the processor, resulting in increased speed and power efficiency.

Apple is using 3nm chips in this year’s iPhones and Macs. The A17 Pro chip in the iPhone 15 Pro models and the M3 series chips in the Mac are both manufactured on the 3nm node, which is an upgraded version of the previous 5nm node.Jumping from 5nm to 3nm technology, the iPhone gets a significant 20% faster GPU, 10% faster CPU, and 2x faster Neural Engine, with similar improvements coming to the Mac.

TSMC is building two new factories to meet the needs of 2-nanometer chip production and is approving a third.TSMC, which typically builds new factories when it needs to increase production capacity to handle large chip orders, is undertaking a major expansion for 2-nanometer technology.

In transitioning to 2nm technology, TSMC will use GAAFETs (All Gate Field Effect Transistors) with nanosheets instead of FinFETs, so the manufacturing process will be more complex.GAAFET enables faster speeds with smaller transistor sizes and lower operating voltages.

The iPhone 15 series released by Apple last year used a 3nm process. Although there does not seem to be much improvement in performance, in the final analysis this is a technological advancement. I believe that the 2NM process will bring greater surprises to everyone!
